Use Caution when Launching Boats at the Lake St. Catherine Fishing Access Area – Ramp Repairs Delayed

WATERBURY, VT – The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department’s proposed boat ramp improvements for the Lake St. Catherine Fishing Access Area in Poultney have been delayed. Construction work on the boat ramp was previously scheduled to occur this spring.

The department intends to make the ramp repairs this fall. Fish and Wildlife cautions users to be mindful of the sharp drop-off and propeller wash berm at the bottom of the boat ramp. Boats can still be launched and retrieved safely if drivers are careful not to back their trailers off the end of the ramp. “Power-loading” of boats onto trailers using the thrust of the boat motor is discouraged at this location as this is what has created the washout hole at the end of the ramp.

The Fish and Wildlife Department’s fishing access areas, enjoyed by anyone who likes to go fishing or boating, are bought and maintained with funds from user fees: fishing licenses, boat registrations, and a marine fuel tax.
