Ninety days after the U.S. Small Business Administration expanded federal contracting opportunities for women-owned, small businesses (WOSBs), the Vermont Procurement Technical Assistance Center (VT PTAC) has created a state-wide series of free workshops focused on the requirements of government contracting and how women-owned, small businesses can become qualified vendors.
Patricia Moulton Powden, deputy secretary of the Agency of Commerce and Community Development and director of economic development for the state, announced that VT PTAC will host half-day workshops at 10 sites across Vermont. The workshops will help women-owned, small businesses and economically disadvantaged women-owned, small businesses (EDWOSBs) learn more about eligibility requirements, compliance requirements and marketing strategies to help make the most of ownership.
“This is an excellent opportunity for Vermont’s women-owned businesses to learn about doing business with the federal government through the newly established WOSB federal contract program. These recent changes will create new opportunities for women-owned businesses,” said Powden. “The federal government procures all types of goods and services, and we want to be sure Vermont businesses have an opportunity to sell to federal agencies.”
The half-day, morning workshops are scheduled for Wednesday, June 1 in Burlington, Newport, Springfield and Rutland, on Thursday, June 2 in Bennington, Brattleboro, Middlebury, Lyndonville and St. Albans, and on Thursday, June 9 in Montpelier. The first two-hour session – “Government Contracting Basics” begins at 8 a.m. and is required for non-PTAC clients. The second two-hour session – “Details on the WOSB/EDWOSB Program” – will provide specifics about eligibility requirements and the certification process as well as how to market a company as WOSB or EDWOSB.
Pre-registration is required to participate in the workshops. . The workshops are offered in partnership with the Vermont Small Business Development Center (VtSBC).
