Secretary of State Jim Condos announced today that the Vermont Historical Records Advisory Board (VHRAB) is partnering with the Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) to present a series of workshops and follow-up consultations around the state to help records repositories prepare for emergencies.
“These one-day workshops are intended to provide participants with the necessary tools to develop effective emergency plans and to implement those plans efficiently when needed,” Secretary Condos said.
The curriculum is geared toward staff and volunteers at archives, town offices, historical societies, libraries, and any other institution that maintains historical records.
The dates and locations of the workshops are:
April 3: Bennington Free Library, Bennington
April 23: River Valley Technical Center, Springfield
May 8: Vermont Historical Society, Barre
May 16: Town Hall, Shelburne
June 30: Fairbanks Museum, St. Johnsbury
Registration for the workshops can be made through the NEDCC at http://www.nedcc.org/preservation-training/vermont-program. The registration fee is $25.
The workshops are supported in part by grants from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission and the Vermont Humanities Council.
Authorized under the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC), VHRAB coordinates grants and programs that provide support to Vermont’s archives. Its members are drawn from archives, historical societies, colleges and universities, museums, and other Vermont cultural institutions and organizations. The board is part of the Vermont State Archives and Records Administration, a division within the Office of Secretary of State.
