MONTPELIER, Vt. – The Lake Champlain Quadricentennial Commission will offer 400 specially-numbered license plates that will be available through an online auction Jan. 12-30.
The limited edition Quadricentennial commemorative plates, numbered 1 to 400, will be available at www.Champlain400.cmarket.com with starting bids ranging from $100 to $800. Bidding will end Jan. 30 at 4 p.m., and all unsold plates will be auctioned again in February.
The numbered plates, approved by the Legislature in 2008, may be placed over front plates of Vermont cars now through June 30, 2010. Funds raised will support the 2009 Lake Champlain Quadricentennial, which marks the 400th anniversary of Samuel de Champlain’s exploration of the lake that bears his name. A variety of events, programs and exhibits are planned throughout the year to commemorate this historic milestone. In addition to the collector’s edition license plates, a separate commemorative license plate is available at www.celebratechamplain.org.
“We’re confident that the Quadricentennial collector’s edition license plates will be a very popular item here in Vermont,” said Bruce Hyde, chair of the Lake Champlain Quadricentennial Commission. “These limited edition plates will certainly appeal to people who are passionate about Vermont, Lake Champlain and our region’s history.”
